The fate of all our fave TV shows. Renewed or not renewed? That is the question.
‘Tis the season for TV show renewals and cancellations, so be prepared to cheer and cry in quick succession. Networks are gearing up for their annual Upfront presentations in New York City (which is like the grand reveal of new fall schedules) and that means it’s time to figure out what stays for next season, what goes, and what new shows get picked up. It’s a very stressful time for anyone who really loves television.
So what’s the rundown so far? Most networks have already started handing out the good news/bad news, and we need to talk about where a few of our favorites stand. It’s also important to note that cable networks genuinely don’t fall under this Upfront mad dash, so if you’re like WHERE IS GAME OF THRONES????????????????? WHAT ABOUT THE USA NETWORK????? it’s not on this list. We’re talking networks here people! Let’s break it down, and start off with the network that has the most good news first: The CW.
The CW
The CW was like, you get a renewal! And you get a renewal! We all get renewals! (Except for two, but more on that in a sec). So what will you get to see again in the fall? The 100, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, The Flash, iZombie, Jane the Virgin, The Originals, Reign, Supernatural, and The Vampire Diaries! Not only that, but the CW has already gone ahead and picked up the spin-off-hybrid of Arrow and The Flash, called Legends of Tomorrow. Be prepared for more DC heroes to come our way.
What was canceled? Sadly, Hart of Dixie and The Messengers won’t grace our televisions again. Guess this just means Rachel Bilson has to go to something else awesome now, huh?
ABC
ABC has renewed a lot of shows, including everything from Shondaland — Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, and a brand new fourth Shonda show, The Catch. So much Shonda. We’re gonna need to reserve another night of television for her.
Also included in their renewals: Secrets and Lies, black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, American Crime, Galavant, Castle, Nashville, Modern Family, Once Upon A Time, The Goldbergs, The Middle, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Marvel’s Agent Carter. PS: When Agent Carter‘s renewal was announced, it was the only show to start trending on Twitter solely based off of the good news. Well done, Peggy.
One Marvel show we won’t see this fall? The S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff about Mockingbird. It’s not moving forward.
As for cancellations, we learned about Revenge‘s fate a week ago — this is the end of Emily Thorne. A few others that were canceled, too: Forever, Cristela, Resurrection, and The Taste.
There’s one other HUGE, IMPORTANT thing about ABC’s fall schedule, and it’s that they’ve officially picked up The Muppets. YAAAAAAASSSSS.
FOX
Have you stopped crying about The Mindy Project yet? It was canceled the other day, and we might never recover. It’s just like, why? It’s not the only thing that’s been canceled by Fox. With it go Red Band Society, Mulaney, Gracepoint, and The X-Factor.
How about some good news from Fox? We’ll get to see Bob’s Burgers, Bones, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, Gotham, Last Man On Earth, New Girl, The Simpsons, and Sleepy Hollow back again. Also, don’t forget about Empire which will hopefully snag a thousand seasons.
But still, Mindy. It stings.
NBC
With NBC, if the show takes place in Chicago, it was renewed. Chicago PD and Chicago Fire will be back, along with a new Chicago show, Chicago Med. Things that don’t take place in Chicago don’t fare as well, with About A Boy, Allegiance, and A to Z (but you knew that all ready) all receiving cancellations.
But, The Blacklist will be back. So will Grimm and Law & Order: SVU. As for Marry Me, The Mysteries of Laura, One Big Happy, and State of Affairs a decision has yet to be made.
CBS
Don’t worry, The Big Bang Theory will live on forever. It’s already been renewed for seasons 9 and 10. Come fall, we’ll also see the return of 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Mom, NCIS: New Orleans, and Scorpion. Doesn’t seem like a lot, huh? CBS hasn’t handed out most of its pick-ups/renewals yet, so be prepared to hear about the rest over the coming days. What’s still in limbo? Two CSI’s, two NCIS’s, Hawaii Five-0, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, Criminal Minds, and Elementary.
Anything officially canceled? Yup. The McCarthys, The Millers, and Unforgettable.
OK, but we need to talk about the most important show coming to CBS ever (in our opinion). Supergirl will fly onto the small screen this fall.
Whew! That was a lot.
