Ruth Negga and the red carpet are twinning at the Oscars, and we're extremely into it
There’s no time like the Oscars for a pun. Ready? We are Loving Ruth Negga’s Academy Awards gown. (We’ll see ourselves out.)
The actress is up for a Best Actress Oscar tonight for her role in the historical drama, and we couldn’t be more obsessed with her stunning ensemble that quite literally matches the red carpet.
Negga looks like an IRL queen in a long-sleeved, A-line custom red Valentino gown, with lace embellishments throughout the sleeves and along the high neckline, broken up from the rest of the bodice by an illusion piece. A custom ruby-red headpiece by Irene Neuwirth and matching earrings completed the look — along with a red lip, because go big or go home, in our opinion.
The back somehow even adds the the exquisiteness, and we think this photographer agrees.
Negga seems to think it’s as awesome as we do that her shoes match the carpet hue pretty much exactly.
We’re not sure what she’s laughing about here, but maybe it’s, “Girl, did you SEE how my shoes match the red carpet? LOLZ!”
Loving is Negga’s first Academy Award nomination. She has spoken out about how the story hits home for her. As the daughter of an Irish mother and Ethiopian father, the aspects of racism touched on by the story mean a lot to the actress.
“Stories about race and identity pique my interest for obvious reasons. That’s in my body, my brain, my history, my memories — it’s all part of my toolbox as an actor,” she told Entertainment Weekly in August.
We’re rooting for you, Ruth! And maybe already scouring the internet for your dress to put on our Christmas lists…
