We may be more than a month away from the official start of summer, but it’s never too early to hop on summer trends. One of the trends that we’re predicting will sweep the nation is the “stacked petal” sandal. In fact, one of our favorite ladies, Kristen Bell, was just spotted in the sandals. Specifically, she was wearing a pair of blush-pink Mercedes Castillo stacked petal sandals at Saturday’s Baby2Baby Mother’s Day Party in Los Angeles.

The stacked petal design is the key element in the Mercedes Castillo Spring 2017 collection. The petals are made from chiffon to give the shoe a light-weight appearance and feel.

We’ve been loving embellished shoes this year, so the stacked petal design is right up our alley.

Bell is wearing the Mercedes Castillo Odalias in pink ($425). This pair also comes in pistachio green, navy blue, and tangy orange.

We also love the Delphia sandal from Mercedes Castillo ($495). The Delphia’s petals are made from leather, making them a bit more hearty than their sister Odalia.

As of right now, only high-end designers have experimented with petal sandals — including Miu Miu and Christian Louboutin. But because the stacked petal design is simple to recreate, you may not have to drop over $400 on a pair of designer shoes.

There are several DIY tutorials for making chiffon flowers on Pinterest, but the stacked petal design is easier than all of them! All you have to do is cut out ~ a lot ~ of chiffon circles, fold them in half, and glue/sew them to whichever shoe you’re embellishing.

Here’s a close-up of the Odalia. You’ll be able to see how many layers of chiffon goes into this design. But the payoff is worth it!

So while you’re waiting for the stacked petal design to hit more affordable stores, why not DIY yourself a pair of stacked petal sandals in the meantime? Bonus points if you wear them with a boho dress like Kristen Bell’s (her’s is Rebecca Taylor)!
