These Are the Best Dressed Stars at the 2020 Emmy Awards
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards are here, and like everything about 2020, it's totally new territory for everyone involved. With an entirely virtual show underway, we aren't watching our favorite celebs strutting down the Emmys red carpet, dressed to the nines. However, while presenters and nominees tune in from home, any preexisting Emmy fashion rules are being thrown out of the window, making for a one-of-a-kind night that we won't soon forget.
Some celebs are sticking with their typical Emmy fashion choices: elegant, striking, and made for best-dressed Emmys lists like this. Others are opting for more casual at-home looks, with stars like Jameela Jamil even showing up in pajamas. Click through for the best 2020 Emmys fashion moments.
Tracee Ellis Ross
Tracee Ellis Ross created her own Emmys red carpet outside at home, and we're loving the dedication. The Black-ish star slayed in a golden tiered gown with a plunging neckline, nearly waist-high slit, and—maybe her best accessory of all—a matching face mask.
Zendaya always slays awards show looks, obvi (remember her 2019 Emmys Poison Ivy dress?) Tonight was no exception as the first-time Emmy nominee showed up in her first look of the night: A black and purple gown by Christopher John Rodgers, paired with a stunning necklace and bedazzled black stilettos.
In her first look of the night, Zendaya was simply an Emmy nominee, but in her second look, the 24-year-old actress became one of the youngest Emmy winners in history, taking home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The star served a memorable Emmys red carpet look for a super-memorable moment. This two-piece gown is a lewk, and we're loving the dramatic polka dot ballgown skirt, bedazzled bra, and plunging neckline. Yet again, Zendaya has stolen the show. Are we surprised? Not in the slightest bit.
Little Fires Everywhere star Kerry Washington came to play at the 2020 Emmys. Nominated for her role as Mia Warren tonight, Washington wore a whimsical white gown printed with wildflowers. To keep things playful, the actress made a pun, calling her Emmy fashion look "little flowers everywhere".
Reese Witherspoon is celebrating not one, but three of her shows being nominated for Emmys tonight, because she's the superwoman of Hollywood, obvi. The Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere, and The Morning Show star is looking fire in a classic Louis Vuitton black dress with bows on the shoulders and sophisticated bling. We'd give anything to watch the Emmys from Reese's backyard tonight, but for now, we'll simply pretend to clink our champagne flute with hers.
Black-ish star Yara Shahidi is no stranger to slaying the Emmys red carpet, but tonight, she slayed the sidewalk. Shahidi stunned in a slip gown that was serving disco vibes on the bottom and blackbird vibes on top. This slinky number is definitely a 2020 Emmy fashion moment to remember.
Nominated for her role in The Morning Show tonight, Jennifer Aniston showed up to the 2020 Emmys in a LBD for the ages. The actress sashayed onstage in the flirty gown, which she paired with a stunning necklace and pumps. Of course, Jen prepped for the Emmys red carpet in a cozy (albeit wrinkly) pajama set and face mask while sipping champagne, just like us. To top it off, her post-presenting look featured a glam pink robe (and a Friends reunion we're swooning over.)
For her 2020 Emmy fashion look, Regina King decided to honor Breonna Taylor. The actress wore a black T-shirt with Taylor's face on it (that you can buy, too), and paired the meaningful piece with a hot pink blazer and dress pants while tuning into the show from home.
King, nominated for her role in The Watchmen this year, showed UP in her second Emmys red carpet look of the night. We're living for this cobalt blue Schiaparelli gown that's decorated with broaches (grandma's relics, but make it fashion?) And that leg action? King is absolutely killing the Emmy fashion tonight.
Billy Porter is the king of any red carpet he walks onto, but tonight for the virtual Emmys red carpet, the Pose star kept it simple. Porter wore an all-white ensemble, clearly unaffected by the "no white after Labor Day" rule. Although it was a bit more subdued than his typical Emmy fashion looks, Billy Porter's Emmys 2020 outfit was still theatrical and polished—just like the star himself.
The Good Place star's Emmys fashion is perhaps the most relatable we've ever seen. We, too, are wearing no bra and no heels while tuning in to the show from home. Jamil looks so cozy, and luckily, we found her exact two-piece pajama set: the comfy pants are aptly named "Happy Hour", while the top is called "Slumber Party"—not what we typically associate with Emmys fashion, but we're into it.
