Emma Stone is picking up awards like they are pennies on the street. This past Sunday, the La La Land star won the 2017 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
But, it’s time to talk about Emma Stone’s SAG Awards lily pad dress, because it too is also beyond just fine and good.
This comes soon after Stone won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture — both for her performance in La La Land. And of course, winning awards for your work is beyond just fine and good…but let’s get back to that dress!
The Alexander McQueen selection boasted beautiful floral embroidery on the chiffon skirt that draped over a snug-fitting lace bodice. Think ancient Greek toga meets 1950s Old Hollywood. It’s elegant, simple, and offers the slightest touch of whimsy.
Most of Stone’s recent red carpet dresses and gowns have had vintage touches. This is most likely because Stone’s outfits in La La Land also drew inspiration from vintage fashion. The film’s costume designer, Mary Zophres, told The Hollywood Reporter, that although La La Land is set in present-day, the team wanted to have that nod to 1950s and 1960s fashion to solidify the throwback to the classic film-musical.
Carrying that vintage theme into Stone’s real world fashion makes for a super elegant and sophisticated red carpet look.
Emma Stone certainly deserves all the credit she’s been given in the past few months. Between her acting, singing, dancing, and awards show dressing, she’s doing everything right. Now all we have to do is start saving for our own Alexander McQueen lily pad dress…
