Wedding dresses are always beautiful, but sometimes they just need a little kick. You know, like an extra dazzle of inspiration from one of the most fashionable celebrities who ever lived — David Bowie. Designer Don O’Neill has just lead the charge at New York Bridal Week, with a Bowie alien-inspired bridal collection.

He literally drew inspiration from Bowie’s 1976 alien movie, The Man Who Fell to Earth, about an alien to comes to Earth in search of resources to save his home planet. For much of the movie, Bowie wears a silvery body suit with some type of head piece that resembles a swim cap. Like this:

Okay, so here’s one of the wedding dresses.

Let’s see that entire thing, shall we.

While this is clearly more of a concept dress than a ready-to-wear look, there are so many gorgeous details to take in. The elegant mermaid skirt, the semi-sheer bodice (what a cool take on the popular illusion look right now) and of course…

…Those WINGS. You can see where the inspiration is drawn from for sure, but O’Neill has managed to translate his interest in Bowie’s flamboyant style and weird alien movies, to create something that feels timeless and slick. The re-vamped head piece is very welcome, and actually looks quite comfortable!

The entire collection was pretty incredible, as the vid below shows. Check out all the futuristic bride models on the runway, and feel the palpable excitement in the audience.

We can’t wait to see what’s next in the world of celebrity and movie inspired fashion, and props to O’Neill for choosing such an iconic and amazing moment in fashion to emulate. What a tribute!
