In one of the most creative cases of upcycling we’ve ever seen, artist Gabriel Dishaw is creating Star Wars masks out of vintage Louis Vuitton bags. Dishaw uses vintage Louis Vuitton luggage, as well as braided wire, computer chips, and electronic material to create his finished sculptures. He’s made things like Darth Vader’s mask, Kylo Ren’s head piece, and the classic stormtrooper helmet.
He also wrote, “My passion for working with metal and mechanical objects has been essential in the evolution of my art. It provides me an avenue to express myself in a way that brings new life to materials such as typewriters, adding machines and old computers – technology that would normally end up in a landfill. My mission is to create dialogue and help find creative, environmentally sound ways of re-purposing e-waste.”
Pretty incredible, right?
If you can’t wait to get your hands on one of these, or think it will make for the most perfect of gifts for the fashion-loving Star Wars aficionado in your life, you might want to start saving. One creation costs about $2,500 (and a lot of them are already sold out).
So while we may not be able to afford one of these masterpieces just yet, we can at least continue to marvel at them via our computer screens/send the pics to everyone we know.
Happy Holidays, and may the Force be with you.
