If there’s one night of the year when the fashion set gets dressed up in full force, it’s the first Monday in May. Also known as the Met Gala, or the Super Bowl of the fashion world, the event is a night to celebrate everything art and fashion, and an excuse to dress way, way up. Each year has a different theme that goes along with the current exhibit at the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which means each year’s looks are totally unique. In the past, everything from punk to China to technology has served as a focal point for the Gala and its attendees. In honor of today’s Gala, we’ve taken a look back at some of the most outrageous and iconic Met Gala looks. From Cher’s ear cuff to Rihanna’s yellow robe, here are 11 of our favorite Met Gala outfits!
