This major fashion brand went #Dadcore by sending dads and their kids down the runway
If there’s one fashion designer we can count on to surprise us season after season, it’s Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga. Demna, who’s consistently inspired by youth culture and street style, turned his eye to something a little different this time around — specifically, young dads in the park with their sons.
Demna’s inspiration was present at Balenciaga’s spring 2018 menswear show, where men were sent down the runway with children by their side or in their arms. These weren’t just any dads, they were off-duty dads.
Clad in oversized blazers, ’90s-style leather jackets, low-rise belted pants, and sweatshirts emblazoned with “Europa” on them, these are business-minded dads who are off the clock. And in true Demna fashion, the #dadcore theme extended beyond the clothes and onto the runway itself.
Real fathers and their kids made their runway debuts together, proving that there is no age limit on style.
Even the kids were clad in Balenciaga, wearing white sneakers, hoodies, and track pants.
There were also two models who hit the runway with their bikes, because the casual dad theme runs strong. Of course, not every off-duty dad can afford a Balenciaga sweatshirt, or pull off a pair of their zip-away pants, but these aren’t regular dads. No, they’re fashion fathers, cool dads, patriarchs who take their kids to the park themselves while clad in fashion-forward pieces.
Regardless, we love that Demna is expanding his fashion influence to fathers everywhere.
