The adorable fanboy-worthy reason Ansel Elgort cried on the best day of his life

The Fault in Our Stars heartthrob Ansel Elgort revealed some pretty amazing personal information when he was interviewed by his real life bestie, Martin Garrix, for his cover story in the September issue of Teen Vogue. For one, Ansel talked about how, when he travels, he never packs more than one change of clothes – potentially disgusting, but we’ll let that pass. He also shared what he does between takes on a movie set: He produces his own music as DJ Ansolo.

As a part-time boyish vagabond with one pair of pants, part-time dance party DJ, and part-time Prada-wearing movie star, Ansel admitted that certain aspects of his life are so different than others that he feels like he has three separate existences. “You know, it might be a weird actor thing,” he said, “but I think of myself as a few different people. Like, I think of myself as Ansel—that’s one person. And then I’m Ansel Elgort. That’s another person. And then I’m Ansolo.”

But here’s the amazing part: thrice the identities, thrice the fun. Ansel described three distinct favorite memories he’s had as each “different” person, and (spoiler alert) one made him cry:

He cried when his song got played for the very first time? Oh, it’s so cute, it hurts!

Ansel’s adorable tears of joy prove that he’s a humble human being, even after starring in huge blockbuster films like TFIOS and Divergent. It’s fantastic that he is open about his emotions and his occasional happy cry. If more dude celebrities talked about having a good sob, maybe the ridiculous societal expectation for men to “keep their emotions in check” could finally be vanquished. Because seriously: crying can be the best release ever. Clearly, Ansel has already figured that out.

In the interview, the 21-year-old gave a glimpse into what makes him tick (besides his three separate identities). He said that the best piece of advice he ever got came from his dad. “My father told me, ‘Do what you love in life; that’s the most important thing. If you just do what you love and work really hard, you will be happy, and everything else will figure itself out.’”

It sounds like Ansel is already working hard at everything he loves: acting, music, and, most importantly, being himself.

Er … I mean, himselves.
