The cast of “The Faculty” looks insanely different 18 years later
It’s probably hard to believe, but this Christmas Day will mark 18 years since The Faculty hit theaters, forever ruining Jon Stewart’s eyeball in the process.
A remarkable portion of The Faculty‘s cast is still famous — the film launched many successful careers — though some of director Robert Rodriguez’s cast seemingly disappeared just like Marybeth Louise Hutchinson after she, y’know, turned most of her local high school into murderous aliens.
With that in mind, let’s see what they’re up to 18 years later, in 2016.
Elijah Wood — Casey Connor
Before he was Frodo Baggins, former child star Wood was awkward high school student turned world-saver Casey Connor. He’s continued to book starring roles on TV and in film since then, with his most recent project being Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, a BBC America sci-fi detective series that was recently picked up for a second season. In 2017, he’ll appear in the film I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.
Jordana Brewster — Delilah Profitt
The Faculty was Brewster’s big screen debut, and since then, she’s become famous worldwide for playing Mia Toretto in the Fast & Furious movies. Her character won’t appear in the upcoming eighth installment in the franchise due to Paul Walker’s tragic death (Mia and Walker’s character, Brian, are partners in the films), but she’s keeping busy on Fox’s Lethal Weapon and ABC’s Secrets and Lies.
Clea DuVall — Stokely “Stokes” Mitchell
The Faculty was DuVall’s big break — previously, she was best known for a guest gig as a ghost on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She’s continued to act in independent and studio films ever since, with highlights including Girl, Interrupted, But I’m a Cheerleader, Zodiac, and Argo. On the small screen, she recently recurred on HBO’s hit series Veep, as well as on American Horror Story: Asylum, Better Call Saul, The Newsroom, and Lifetime’s Lizzie Borden projects.
Josh Hartnett — Zeke Tyler
Hartnett became a smash hit heartthrob soon after The Faculty, but in the mid-2000s he began gravitating towards indie projects. His most recent hit was the showtime series Penny Dreadful, but the new dad has plenty of work down the pipeline in 2017, including World War I drama The Ottoman Lieutenant and the James Franco project The Long Home.
Laura Harris — Marybeth Louise Hutchinson
Big Bad Harris has a long resume, though she never quite reached the heights of fame enjoyed by her Faculty costars. Recently, she’s done some voiceover work in animated projects like Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and her most recent movie gig was in the 2014 project Preggoland.
Shawn Hatosy — Stan Rosado
Hatosy went on to star on TNT’s critically acclaimed Southland for five seasons, and currently stars on Animal Kingdom, which was recently picked up for a second season, on the same network. He also recurred on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead during its first season.
Robert Patrick — Coach Joe Willis
Patrick, who you also probably know as the terrifying murder-bot from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Special Agent John Doggett from The X-Files, has enjoyed a long and storied career that began years before The Faculty. Since 2014, he’s starred on CBS’s Scorpion, though before that TV lovers may have seen him on True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Last Resort, or From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.
Famke Janssen — Elizabeth Burke
After The Faculty, Janssen became famous for playing Jean Grey in the X-Men movies (before Sansa Stark stole her thunder). She also starred in the Taken films, on Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, and on FX’s Nip/Tuck. She recurs as Viola Davis’ love interst on How to Get Away with Murder, and will soon star on NBC’s Blacklist spinoff The Blacklist: Redemption.
Bebe Neuwirth — Principal Valerie Drake
Neuwirth is famous for being Broadway royalty (Velma Kelly, anyone?) but she also has a decades-long resume in film and television. Most recently, she’s been starring on CBS’ Madame Secretary since 2014.
Piper Laurie — Karen Olson
Laurie was famous for playing the crazy mom in Carrie, the estranged mom in Children of a Lesser God, Sarah Packard in The Hustler, and Catherine Martell in Twin Peaks decades before The Faculty. Now in her mid-80s, Laurie is taking it easy in Southern California.
Daniel von Bargen — John Tate
Von Bargen, who also played Mr. Kruger on Seinfeld and Commandant Edwin Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle, sadly died in 2015 of undisclosed causes, after suffering from diabetes for years.
Usher Raymond — Gabe Santora
Let’s be real — you know what Usher is doing.
Jon Stewart — Mr. Edward Furlong
Ditto what we just said about Usher.
