A Facebook post about women wanting their husbands to take more photos of them has gone viral

When it comes to our modern day and age, it seems like people are always taking pictures on their phones. Whether we’re trying to get the best possible light for our brunch or angling our faces for a selfie, it seems like people have an endless scroll of photos saved to their phones. What we tend to lack, however, are pictures of one another.

For example, when was the last time you saw someone take a picture of their partner and children, just out of the blue? A viral post on Facebook from last Saturday addresses this very issue, and urges men to take pictures of their partners with their children, no matter what they look like or how candid it is. It’s resonated with over 9,800 people who’ve liked the post, and 7,700 who have shared it. 

Because, as the writer Kaylin Maree Schimpf explains, mothers too often are behind the camera capturing moments, and kids grow up to have a few images with their mothers. You can check out the image and text below:

In her post, she says, "Dear men, take the photo… It doesn’t matter what she looks like, or if she tells you no, take the photo. You may not think about it often, or at all honestly. But when she is gone, those photos won’t show your children the women who was behind the camera. Take the photo. Messy hair, no make up or a dirty old t-shirt won’t matter to your children when she is gone someday."

This post is super emotional, and for good reason: Too often mothers are behind the scenes, documenting special moments from behind the lens of the camera, not in front of it. It’s tempting, too, in our digital world to only share and post “perfect” pictures when people feel look their best. In the long-term, however, it’s often the spur of the  moment, candid shots that show the love between a parent and child that hold us over later in life. So dads (and really, all parents, because this goes beyond gender), take the photos! Don’t worry, you can filter them later.
