Your Facebook newsfeed is about to change again
Without a doubt, Facebook is one of the most highly successful social media sites out there and a large part of that has been the company’s ability to develop and test out innovative new features around the clock.
Case in point: Yesterday, entrepreneur and CEO Jason Stein noticed that Facebook is currently testing a new version of its telltale News Feed, enabling users to make the feature even more specific to their interests.
Rather than the news feed just filled with a mix of your friends’ status updates, articles from your favorite publications, and the occasional Onion parody, users will be able to pull up a news feed based around style, news headlines, or travel. Facebook is currently beta testing the new feature on mobile only with some of its users.
“People have told us they’d like new options to see and have conversations about more stories on Facebook around specific topics they’re interested in,” a Facebook spokesperson told The Verge. “So we are testing feeds for people to view different stories from people and Pages based on topic areas.”
This change joins a few other new features Facebook is currently testing including Marketplace, which allows users to purchase items that pop up in their News Feeds via the social media site, and a new in-app feature for Facebook Messenger that will make it possible for users to order an Uber through the Facebook application alone. Call it a drive towards making Facebook truly useful.
There’s no word yet on when any of these new features will get the full rollout treatment, but if and when they are widely available, the way we use Facebook will no doubt change entirely.
