Turn yourself into a Jedi with Facebook’s new lightsaber filter

It’s here! It’s finally here! After a decade of waiting, we finally have a brand new Star Wars film. And if you haven’t noticed by now, Star Wars mania is contagious and totally global. Most (if not all) showings for opening night are already sold out, and there are already fans camped outside of theaters waiting for the big moment. Merchandise has already been on the shelves for months in the form of everything from toys and T-shirts to a Death Star waffle maker and a Chewbacca Mr. Potato Head. There’s even an app to help Star Wars fans avoid all the spoilers that are already buzzing around on the Internet. Heck, even Jimmy Fallon is getting in on the anticipatory action, having just gotten the cast together for an acapella tribute to the film.

Don’t worry, though. There’s a way for you to get in on the Star Wars fan action too, that is if you haven’t already. Facebook recently released a new profile photo filter to allow you to add a lightsaber to your profile pic. With just a few quick keystrokes, you too can show your fandom for what is definitely the most highly-anticipated film of the year. Also you’ve got two options to choose from: a blue saber like Finn’s or a red lightsaber like Kylo Ren’s.

It takes all of 30 seconds to do (longer if you’re picky about what photo you’re gonna use). I tried it for myself (above) and for my son (below). Check it out, my toddler’s wielding his first lightsaber:

You can set your new profile pic so that it’s only up for an hour, a day, a week, or never (meaning you choose when you change it). Or you can make multiple and download them to your computer to change out whenever you want. Go ahead and make one before you watch the movie tonight. May the Force be with you.
