This couple met on Facebook, but not in the way you think

Got a serious case of the Monday doldrums? A big dose of feels can fix that. That’s exactly what Schuyler Benson provided us with when he posted his love story on Imgur two days ago for us all to cry over forever. And it all started with a flip phone.

Almost exactly six years ago, when Schuyler was living in South Arkansas in 2009, he used a flip-phone to log-in to his Facebook account. . . except he was automatically logged into a woman’s account that he had never met. “I opened the browser, went to facebook.com, and wasn’t even given a chance to enter any login information,” Schuyler explained on Imgur. “I was already logged in. I had to make several posts in order to find out I wasn’t logged into my own account.”

He was logged into the account of a woman named Celeste in Boulder, Colorado. “She and I had never met, never lived in the same state, had no mutual friends in real life or online, shared no Facebook interests,” he explained on Imgur. “For some reason, I was unable to logout of her account. And every time I logged in from my phone for the entire week, I found myself in Celeste’s account.”

Luckily, the log-in debacle was solved, but not until some considerable chatting took place between the two. “After some understandable confusion (and a little panic on both parts), I was able to log out after she sent me a friend request. She’s admitted that she intended to delete me a few days later, but it turns out we had a lot in common. Like, a LOT in common.”

This was the start of a grand adventure for Schuyler and Celeste. The two became very close online, and they met IRL in June of 2013. By fall of that year, Celeste had relocated from Colorado to Arkansas to live with Schuyler. And by June of 2014, they were engaged. This summer, on June 21, they were married and started their new life together in South Carolina, and our hearts are bursting.

“I found my partner, my best friend, my great love via a simple glitch in social media,” Schuyler wrote. “There are awful things in this world, but sometimes there’s beauty, too. This is my beauty.”

OK, YEP, that’s adorable. We’re misty-eyed over here. Schuyler’s post has got almost 500,000 views, and for great reason: we can’t help but feel like fate brought these two humans together. Or maybe it was the power of a flip-phone. Or should we credit Mark Zuckerberg? Either way, congratulations, Schuyler and Celeste. May you have many happy years together. . . all thanks to a crazy Internet mix-up.
