How Facebook helped throw this little girl the best party ever

MAJOR feels and sob alert, everyone. So grab a handful of tissues and let’s talk about how Facebook helped throw little Lila May Schow the best birthday party ever.

Lila is a “spunky” five-year-old who loves Disney princesses. She also happens to be battling stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer, which attacks the nervous system. Lila has been going through treatment and chemotherapy for three years now, but recently had to stop since her body isn’t strong enough to handle it anymore. The cancer has also made its way back into her bone marrow, and doctors have stopped her treatment because it’s too damaging to her body. Now her family is bracing for the worst, and looking for a way to give Lila everything she deserves and everything she might miss as the cancer continues to take its toll. So her mom, dad, and step-dad decided to throw her one HUGE party encompassing all the parties she might not otherwise have a chance to experience.

“We want to make [birthday] number 5 her wedding, her prom, her Prince Charming, everything she won’t get,” Lila’s mom, Heidi Hall told Oregon’s KOIN, “I don’t want to see her suffer anymore. So when she smiles it’s the best part of my day.”

July 31st was the big day, and thanks to locals who got wind of the event on Facebook, it turned out to be a day to remember forever. Over 1,000 people from Oregon, Idaho, and California came to the event, and the festivities spilled out into the streets. Lila arrived on a horse drawn carriage and wore a hand-made Cinderella dress that had been donated to her.

According to KOIN, she not only had a father-daughter dance inside, but a stepdad-daughter, dance, too.

Everything for her ball was donated, from food, to cakes, to even the DJ. The original Facebook posting for the event asked if they could have one adult dressed as Tina from Princess and the Frog. Tiana showed up, and brought friends along too, including Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Elsa and Anna. There were also carnival games and face panting outside, and everyone was dressed to the nines in their best ballgowns. Most certainly an incredibly day to remember.
