Facebook is now testing a feature that could make our lives SO MUCH EASIER
Raise your hand if you’re constantly using all of your phone’s monthly data scrolling through Facebook because you don’t have WiFi. *Raises hand.* Fortunately, this could all change very soon. *Puts hand down.* According to TheNextWeb, Facebook is testing an app that has the potential to locate the closest WiFi sources and save all our lives (err wallets).
According to Mashable, the app would be a LOT different than simply opening up iPhone settings and looking at nearby networks. The app would essentially allow users to look for open and public WiFi networks without being in direct proximity to them. That way you won’t need to be standing right in Starbucks to see that it has WiFi.
A Facebook spokesperson told Mashable,
"To help people stay connected to the friends and experiences they care about, we are rolling out a new feature that surfaces open Wi-Fi networks associated with nearby places.
We LOVE this idea. Too often it’s difficult to look for available WiFi without seeming like a crazy person and public networks are often too good to be true. According to Mashable, Facebook is testing the application in various models and countries to see its rate of success.
Facebook is not the only digital company that has explored the WiFi finder route, though. There are a few that can be found in the Apple store, but due to the size and resources of Facebook, we hope that they can bring us the best one yet.
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the wide release of the app, but if Facebook is looking for volunteers, they know where to find us!
