A Facebook bug is turning living people’s accounts into memorial pages

If my family or friends are reading this, DON’T WORRY — I’m safe and sound, curled up on my couch with Netflix and a whole lot of chocolate. But, according to social media, I no longer walk among the living — because Facebook is turning living people’s accounts into memorial pages.
When I logged onto Facebook today, I was perplexed by a notification that urged my loved ones to turn my profile into a memorial page to celebrate my life. "How come I died and no one told me?" I wondered aloud. Then I learned that a site-wide glitch was responsible for the death notices of multiple Facebook users — and apparently Mark Zuckerberg himself had been declared dead by his own site. (That's way harsh, Facebook.)
Facebook just told me I am dead. This comes as news to me, but it must be true, right? If Facebook says so…

Welp, I guess this is hard evidence that we really can’t believe everything we see on the Internet.
After Facebook told us we were dead to them, we turned to our other most trusted social media platform, Twitter, in order to revel in the dark humor of the moment.

Happy to report that Facebook didn’t kill me, but I am still dead inside

Since Zuckerberg himself wasn’t spared, I guess I don’t need to take this personally. I still love you, Facebook — even when you think it’s time for my loved ones to move on and turn my profile into a memorial page.
