The 6 features people with anxiety wish Facebook had

Social media is a double-edged sword. It’s such an easy way to stay in touch with our friends and current events, but for people with anxiety, it can make things tricky. Facebook is the one place where everyone in your life virtually lives, and as if navigating your social circle IRL wasn’t anxiety-inducing enough, you also have to do it with the threat of typos.
However, if Facebook had these six simple features, we think our fears would (mostly) vanish:
1. A truthful way to decline event invites.

Going to that event would be super uncomfortable, but not getting invited to things is even worse. We need a way to artfully decline an event while showing that we still really appreciate the offer!
2. Something that stops you from posting things you’ll later regret.

Social media is a great outlet, but sometimes your thoughts need to stay in your brain. If Facebook had a way to tell we were venting (perhaps it could detect the speed of our typing?), it could check in to make sure we really want to post those things.
3. An alternative to the “seen” feature.

“SEEN” IS THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO MODERN COMMUNICATION AND I HATE IT. It’s so cold and scary and I know the other person is just waiting until they have time to respond, but then again, do I know anything?
4. A way to opt out of likes.

Seriously, there are some things that just don’t need likes, or that I don’t want qualified by the number of them I get. I just want to send my thoughts out into the void like everyone else.
5. A pop-up that stops you from being jealous.

While everyone has the right to brag on Facebook, it can make other people feel inadequate. We need Facebook to have our backs.
6. An “ex” button.

I cannot stress this enough. I don’t want my ex popping up in my “memories,” I don’t want their pictures randomly appearing on my timeline, but obviously I want them to still see all my stuff, so work with me here Facebook!
