Everything you need to know about Emma Watson’s latest tweets about gender equality

Remember Emma Watson’s inspiring UN speech and her phenomenally-important HeForShe campaign? Both got the Internet talking at a level usually reserved for animals doing adorable things and stories about amazing body positivity vibes. Emma used her huge star power to get the entire world engaged in a serious and important conversation about feminism, and for that, we applaud her.

In her memorable speech, Emma called for men to not just embrace, but actively support, the feminist cause. “We want to try to galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change and we don’t just want to talk about it. We want to try and make sure that it’s tangible.”

Now, actual data about the impact of Emma’s amazing call to action is becoming available and the results are kind of incredible. In the UK, 34,331 men have pledged their support for the HeForShe campaign. In the US, over 75,000 men have pledged. Those numbers are huge and amazing and great. But as impressive as the numbers for the UK and the US are, it’s the men of Iceland who have Emma taking to Twitter with some major praise. In Iceland, one in every 20 guys have committed to supporting the HeForShe campaign. Considering Iceland’s relatively small population, their raw numbers (about 8,600) seem small, but to put that in perspective, if one in 20 guys in the UK pledged their support, their number would jump from 34,331 to more than 1.5 million. Yes, million.

Emma was so impressed, she took to Twitter to brag on Iceland’s progressive guys.

Yes to all of this. Now, come on, guys of the rest of world: Take Iceland’s lead and take action with HeForShe.
