Everything I need to know, I learned from Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen is a model — yes, that is a true statement. But she’s way more than just a model, Teigen is mega multi-faceted. She’s model, a host, a friggin’ comedienne, and she also has an insane ability to make all of us relate to her. If you don’t follow Teigen on Twitter or Instagram, please do so immediately — you’ll totally get what I mean about the relatability. Also if you’re not obsessing over Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, get on that. She’s hilarious. Anyway, with those things in mind, I thought it might be a nice time to talk about how much I love Teigen.
EINTKILF Superwoman Chrissy Teigen
1. Say what you want to say.
Now if you do happen to follow Teigen on Twitter, you already know that she is the first person to say whatever is on her mind. Whether it is about poor meal service on an airline or Donald Trump’s narcissism, she has absolutely no problem saying it. It is not exclusive to Twitter, either. Teigen has absolutely no problem expressing her opinion in interviews, at award shows, or on her new gig as colorful commentator on Lip Sync Battle.
2. Stand up for yourself.
Similarly, Teigen has no issue standing up for herself. Not only is she a model — profession that gets a lot of negative attention from the media and the average person alike — but she is also married to one of the best (and most attractive, ahem) hip-hop/R&B singers of all-time. As a Sports Illustrated cover star and John Legend’s wife, Teigen gets a lot of crap on the Internet (and I’m assuming real life). The greatest part thing is that Teigen will call people out who call her out. I would love to see an all Teigen version of Jimmy Kimmel’s “Celebs Read Mean Tweets.” She’d kill it.
A lot of her comebacks are NSFW, so I’ll just leave this here.
3. Eat real food.
“People are still under the misguided impression that models don’t eat. Not sure about the other girls, but I do!”
Not only does Teigen talk about food a lot, she makes food a lot. Following Teigen on Instagram can kind of feel like following Bon Appetit. WHICH IS AWESOME. Teigen eats way more bacon than my metabolism can handle, but I am always proud of her. There is nothing I love more than a woman who eats food. Especially a damn supermodel.
4. Also eat fake food.
Teigen has a very open love affair with Taco Bell, and if it is refreshing for a supermodel to talk about eating real food, it is even more refreshing to know that such a strong BAMF woman can chow down on some fast food. I won’t even pretend that it makes those secret McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches go down a little easier. (It’s been awhile, guys.)
5. Be fashion forward.
Okay so I subscribe to GQ Magazine because it’s my favorite magazine for some reason? And a few months back, Teigen and Legend had a spread in the magazine that literally made me break up with my boyfriend. Okay, that was COINCIDENTAL, but looking at their stylish pictures and almost literally feeling the love between them raised my relationship standards by a lot. Oh and Teigen always looks awesome in everything she’s wearing, not just when she is next to her man.
6. Be expressive.
On Lip Sync Battle, Teigen is arguably the best part of the show. As the “colorful commentator” on the show, Teigen gives her opinions about the performances, but she also dances and sings along, offering so much entertainment to an already hilarious show. Watching her sing along to Anne Hathaway singing along to Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” was pure bliss. (Also — what a SENTENCE that was.) Get it, girl.
7. It’s okay to cry.
“It’s been five minutes and I’m a meme.”
Speaking of expressions–when Legend VERY RIGHTFULLY won the Golden Globe for the song “Glory” from Selma, obviously Teigen was emotionally moved. But fortunately and unfortunately, it is 2015 and we live to mock those emotional moments. Teigen is probably the most perfect person to make a meme and millions of GIFs of, however. She appreciates humor, even at her own expense, and truthfully, we all cried when Legend won that Globe.
8. Love your body no matter what.
Though we pretend it is easy for such a beautiful woman to love her body, as women, we all know that insecurities are real in everyone’s lives. Teigen seemingly eats insecurities for breakfast. Not only does she joke about her body (her butt in particular), she responds to mean people like a champ.
“I like being called ‘butter face’ because it implies I have a dope body.”
That’s my girl. I remember the first time I was called fat, I literally was like, “Whatever, I’m still super pretty.” THAT WAS MY THOUGHT. If I could implant all women with thoughts like those, I DEFINITELY would.
9. Hold out for real love.
I read something ridiculous about how Legend and Teigen were together for “too long” before they got married, but let’s be real: That’s something that I absolutely love about their relationship. Because I am an absolute romantic, I don’t actually think the length of time two people have been together actually matters pre-marriage, but I will admit that I think people who have been together longer have more ground to stand on. That all being said, Teigen and Legend make an incredible couple, and I am not even basing this on one of the most romantic love songs of all time (“All of You”), but more the brief moments of their love in the music video for “You & I (Nobody in the World).”
