Everyone is obsessed with this giraffe about to give birth, and you’re about to join them!
We’re dreading having to recap what we did all weekend with our colleagues Monday. Because, it only really includes watching a live stream of April the Giraffe preparing to give birth. According to the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY, the 15-year-old giraffe could pop any minute now. And the world can’t stop watching.
This will be April’s fourth time giving birth, and she deserves one heck of a pat on the back. From watching the live feed, you can totally tell that she’s super uncomfortable. Her five-year-old partner Oliver, the only male giraffe in the park, is trying to be supportive. It’s seriously the cutest thing ever!
And, Twitter has been watching April the Giraffe every step of the way!
I'm super invested in April giving birth to this baby calf. I have educated myself and am now a giraffe expert. #giraffewatch

"Her husband has been great. His name is Oliver. He's been so helpful." My mom, talking about the #giraffe giving birth.

Oliver is friskily running about and April is propped up against the wall pregnant and I can feel her judgement toward him. #giraffewatch

The park has been doing a great job of keeping us all in the loop. Just this morning, the crew shared an update on April to help us make sense of what we’re looking at.
"April is alert and attentive to her keepers, she shows no signs of discomfort," the park's Facebook post read. "You will notice on our live feed, a lot of positioning in her hips, belly movements and stutter stepping. This could be attributed to significant movement of the calf inside...baby is big! Calves are on average, 6' tall and 150 lbs upon birth."
Of course, any woman who’s ever given birth can tell you that they know exactly what April’s going through. On a smaller scale, obviously. But, the movements and body language are all too familiar.
We’re currently trying to wrap our minds around just how big this baby giraffe calf is going to be. And, the anticipation is killing us!
