10 “Harry Potter” quotes perfect for everyday use

Sometimes, words are hard to find. Magically, J.K. Rowling has given us NOVELS full of wonderful things to say when we need the words most. There are thousands of perfect Harry Potter quotes across all seven books, many of which make us feel better and help us get through life (thinking of you, Dumbledore’s “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”).
But what about quotes you can use every day of your life? Here are just a few you need to start working into normal conversation — if you aren’t using them already.
1. “I’ll be in my bedroom, making no noise and pretending that I don’t exist.” — Harry
Can you tell you’re not wanted in a situation? Take the easy, and most awkward, way out, by announcing to the group that you’ll be upstairs minding your own business (or in the cupboard under the stairs).
2. “Always.” — Snape
Can be used literally, well, always. This is like Han Solo’s, “I know” or Westley’s “as you wish.” For many, it’s just a word. But when used properly, and directed towards someone you love, it can mean the world.
3. “It’s leviOsa, not leviosAH.” — Hermione
Need to correct someone on a little blunder, and want to be polite about it? Well, you could be polite… or you could be Hermione.
4. “Eat slugs.” — Ron
WHOA, these are some fightin’ words. Just make sure that you’re not the one that ends up eating slugs.
5. “You’re a Wizard, Harry.” — Hagrid
Best when you’re trying to state the obvious. Even better when you say it in a thick Scottish accent.
6. “Our. new. celebrity.” — Snape
Meant to draw attention to someone who already has a ton of attention. The pauses between the words are VERY. IMPORTANT.
7. “One can never have enough socks.” — Dumbledore
Did you just get a present you’re not really psyched about? Politely comment that one can never have enough socks. Or did you get EXACTLY what you were hoping for, no matter how mundane it is? Also a perfect time to mention that one can never have enough socks.
8. “Neither can live while the other survives.” — Professor Trelawney
It’s like when you have a donut and cookie and you want to eat both of them, you should really only eat one of them, but then decided it’s best to eat both so the other isn’t lonely. The donut cannot live while the cookie survives. Make sense?
9. “We all could have been killed — or worse, expelled.” — Hermione
Use this quote when you need to STRESS how GRAVE the situation you just escaped could have been. Besides, what’s worse than being… expelled?
10. “Just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn’t mean we all have.” — Hermione
Is your crush being ridiculously thick? Been there, done that, and Hermione has the perfect comeback for it.
