Is it just us or do these two “Game of Thrones” characters look exactly the same
**Beware, major spoilers ahead for Season 6**
There are A LOT of characters to keep track of on Game of Thrones, we can all agree on that, right? And every week it feels like as soon as we lose one beloved character, three show up in in their place.
Well the last few have been no exception. With the arrival of Lem Lemoncloak at the Hound’s sept retreat, you may have been like, “Why does that dude look familiar?”
And then you may have then thought, “Wait, is that the jerk who wants to kill Theon and Yara?”
Because, the last time we saw him, Euron Greyjoy, (Episode 5, “The Door”), he was telling like 15 guys to build him an insane amount of ships…
…by CHOPPING LOTS OF WOOD.
So, two episodes later (Episode 7, “The Broken Man”) when we see all these people working with a bunch of WOOD, it’s like, “Oh, these are people helping make ships or maybe they’ll be forced to help make ships.”
AND THEN, Mr. Lemoncloak with his very similar-looking Euron face and facial hair shows up (albeit not EXACTLY the same, but close enough if your memory isn’t ?), it’s like, “OH, this is totally that guy. He’s here to bully these people into helping him build those ~thousand ships~.” Except, he wasn’t. He was there to basically kill them.
So the initial confusion seemed easy enough to make. I mean, let’s just do a side by side here for comparison.
PRETTY CLOSE.
Now, if you’re a Game of Thrones book enthusiast, you probably realized right away that Lem was definitely not Euron Greyjoy. “Lem” Lemoncloak, named very literally for his lemon yellow cloak he wears, is an important member of the Brotherhood of Banners who helps resurrect Catelyn Stark as Lady Stoneheart.
And Euron, for those of us who are having trouble keeping track, is the younger brother of the recently deceased, King Balon Greyjoy. Here’s a simplified family tree just to give you an idea.
And when we saw poor Mr. Lemoncloak meet his not-so-unfortunate end (’cause you know, it’s not cool to kill a bunch of innocent people just hangin’ out in the woods), that pretty much was the point we were all like, “Oh, right, that CAN’T be the same dude because Theon and Yara’s uncle is definitely not going to die like THAT.”
Sorry, Lem. But, this’ll help us be less confused now that there’s only one bearded-maniac running around.
Now, wonder if we’ll see Euron’s thousand-ship fleet by the end of this season…
