Here are all the jokes from the 2018 Oscars about the infamous 2017 envelope mixup
Welcome to the 2018 Academy Awards, or as it’s better known,”The One Where Hopefully No One Mixes Up The Envelopes Again.”
If you remember back to the 2017 Oscars, everything went off without a hitch! It was great! And then we got to the final award of the evening for Best Picture. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway took to the stage to present the award, and then…things fell apart. To make a super long story short — and one that you can actually watch, since it happened *live* — Beatty and Dunaway had the wrong Oscar envelope. Instead of giving Best Picture to the actual winner, Moonlight, it was handed over to La La Land.
What happened next was literally something out of a nightmare. The La La Land cast took to the stage to accept the award, while those behind-the-scenes began scrambling to right everything that was going horribly, horribly wrong. It took about three-ish minutes to get the award into Moonlight’s hand, but by then, the damage was already done.
Over the past year, many (many, many) jokes have been made at the expense of this envelope mixup, and well, the 2018 Oscars aren’t any different. Here are some of the best ~EnvelopeGate~ jokes from the telecast:
1. Jimmy Kimmel: “This year when you hear your name called, don’t get up right away. Give us a minuet.”
2. Jimmy Kimmel: “What happened last year is unfortunately, and I have a story I haven’t told anyone because I wanted to save it for tonight. [Last year] the accountants wanted to do comedy with me, and I said no. The accountants went ahead and did comedy on their own.”
3. Mark Hamill: “Don’t say La La Land, don’t say La La Land…”
More to come…
