Someone called this woman’s engagement ring “pathetic” — her response is SO good

It seems like more and more, pressure related to weddings is outgrowing the pleasure they bring people. Between making everybody’s family and friends happy, elaborate wedding decorations and venues, and shows glorifying the purchase of incredibly expensive dresses, wanting a simple union with the person you love can almost feel taboo. Ariel McRae experienced this first hand when a post about her wedding bands went viral on Facebook.

Ariel and her husband had an unfortunate experience with some store clerks while shopping for their wedding bands, and she shared her insightful thoughts and feelings about the experience with all of us. Girl def deserves a round of applause.

The full story is above, but basically, while she and her husband — who had scrimped and saved to afford rings because they were so eager to start their lives together — were purchasing their rings, a clerk said within earshot of Ariel, “Y’all can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic.”

Ariel wrote, “My husband doesn’t have a lot, neither of us do. We scrape and scrape to pay bills and put food in our bellies, but after almost 2 years of dating we decided that we couldn’t wait anymore, so we didn’t.”

She added, “I wasn’t even thinking about rings, I just wanted to marry my best friend, but he wouldn’t have it. He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora. Sterling silver and CZ to be exact. That’s what sits on my ring finger, and I am so in love with them.” But that’s when the clerk made that horrible comment about the rings.

While Ariel says she wanted to rail on the woman, she took the high road, and simply responded, "It isn't the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that is."

She added, “Y’all I would have gotten married to this man if it had been a 25¢ gum ball machine ring. When did our nation fall so far to think the only way a man can truly love a woman is if he buys her $3,000+ jewelry and makes a public decree of his affection with said flashy ring? Sure they are nice, sure the sentiment is wonderful and I’m not trying to cut down any of your experiences, but when did it come to all that? Why do material possessions equate love??”

We think Ariel’s totally right, and we wish she and her new husband all the best. And the rings are, of course, beautiful.
