Thank you Emmys, for making Amazon Prime a little cheaper
During Sunday’s Emmy’s, Andy Samberg’s goofy charm made him a solidly funny host for the evening, we discovered that, apparently, we should watch Olive Kitteridge, and Amazon’s original series Transparent picked up five awards.
The wins for Transparent are pretty significant, both in regard to the show’s subject matter — including its portrayal of women and a particular trans narrative — and because it comes from a production entity that, up until recently, wasn’t a production entity at all. The wins are also significant because, according to PYMNTS.com, Amazon is offering a limited time discount on its Prime Memberships to celebrate.
Said Michael Paull, Vice President of Digital Video for Amazon, of the wins for Transparent: “This has been an incredibly exciting year—with the Golden Globes wins in January and now 12 nominations and five Primetime Emmy wins. We are thrilled to celebrate Transparent with our customers by offering a Prime discount.”
The memberships, which typically cost $99 per year, will be only $67 in honor of the 67th Emmys. The discount will be available starting at midnight ET this Friday (September 25) and end at 11:59 p.m. PT. This deal is only available to new customers, which is unfortunate for those of us who have used Amazon Prime for years primarily for the convenience of having giant bags of kitty litter delivered to our door.
Prime memberships allow Amazon customers to watch Transparent using the Amazon Video App in a variety of formats including televisions, mobile devices, and online. It also enables customers to receive free 2-day shipping and unlimited streaming of movies and music.
For all of those Transparent fans aching for new episodes, season two of the show will premiere on December 4. In the meantime, two new original series, Red Oaks and The Man in the High Castle, will be available on October 9 and November 20, respectively, and should keep those of us who are TV lovers occupied until then!
