Emma Watson has broken her Twitter silence
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Emma Watson on Twitter. The last time she tweeted was back in June, when she hid copies of The Handmaid’s Tale all over Paris. Emma has specifically been hiding books in New York City, London, and Paris alongside her Our Shared Shelf project. The project is a feminist book club that encourages everyone to read books and essays about equality.
But the actress is back on Twitter, and for a really good reason. Emma broke her month-long social media silence to welcome Malala Yousafzai to Twitter. Malala is a 19-year-old Pakistani activist and Nobel Prize winner who fights for the rights of women and girls around the world, and she just joined Twitter.
Welcome @Malala! It is so exciting to have you on Twitter ❤

Emma, along with feminists everywhere, is so happy to welcome Malala to Twitter, who happened to join on her last day of school.
It’s been less than a week, and she already has over 719,00 followers.
Hi, Twitter.

Today is my last day of school and my first day on @Twitter [THREAD]

Naturally, she’s a bit overwhelmed by all the love, but noted that she’s happy she waited until after her final exams to join, which we totally get.
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm still reading all your replies and it may take awhile. Glad I joined AFTER exams!

Emma and Malala have been friends for a while.
Back in 2015, Emma posted a clip to Facebook of an interview she did with the activist. In the video, Malala explained how she felt inspired to call herself a feminist because of a speech Emma gave on gender equality as the UN Women Goodwill ambassador.
Both Emma and Malala are inspiring women and men all over the world to help make positive changes in their communities and beyond, and that’s a beautiful thing.
