Emma Watson’s latest cause is targeting the fashion industry
When she’s not starring in feature films, working with the UN and starting the #HeForShe movement, Emma Watson is constantly thinking about ways she could take part in changing the world. This time, she’s putting the fashion industry under the microscope. Specifically, she’s pushing for the culture of fashion to go green, advising against fur or chemicals and materials that are bad for the environment.
The inspiration for this change comes from the film The True Cost, which takes a look at the questionable ethics of the fashion industry. Emma started spreading the word on Instagram, and it’s really taken off. In one Instagram post, she writes, “Inspired to consider the whole process of creating a fashion look, we are thinking about all the people, pieces and moving parts! This rack includes designers that are considering local craft and production, artisan skills, the environment, sustainability and the longevity of fashion!” Well said, girl.
She went on to prove that ethical fashion could be just as stylish as what we usually see on the runway.
Seriously, sustainable fashion is gorgeous —and is doing the world some good.
As always, we applaud Emma for using her celebrity status to further so many rad causes. I for one know that I will be more careful about where I spend my money. If it’s good enough for Emma Watson then it’s good enough for me!
