Emma Watson just shared the June selection for her book club

Ever since we first met her on the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, we’ve basically done whatever Hermione Granger says. And since Emma Watson perfectly embodied the brilliant young witch (and has turned out as impressive of a young woman as her famous character), we pretty much do whatever she says, too.
And that includes reading what the Ivy-League educated UN Ambassador says to read. She announced on her Instagram that the June selection for her book club is Persepolis.
The suggestion is actually an autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi that depicts the story of her life growing into adulthood as a woman in Iran after the Islamic Revolution. It’s an international hit that has been translated into multiple languages (from its original French) and was listed on Newsweek’s #5 most important nonfiction books of the decade. It even got made into an animated film that was nominated for an Academy Award.
In other words, it’s an incredible (and clearly important) story that Emma Watson knows we need to read about. And we’re grateful to her for making sure we keep our minds open and stay cultured. Not to mention we’re excited to start reading it, and therefore have another thing to talk to Emma about when we someday get the chance.
