Here’s how to help Emma Watson prep for International Women’s Day
This Sunday, March 8, is International Women’s Day, and Emma Watson wants you to help her celebrate.
The 24-year-old actress and UN Goodwill Ambassador is a vocal activist for global gender equality, In January, she delivered a powerful speech about the importance of governments addressing the gender gap at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. So it’s not surprising that she has something up her sleeve for International Women’s Day.
Watson announced on her Facebook page that she’s going to be hosting an event in London about her gender equality initiative, He For She.
“This is very exciting and I hope that you will also be excited because I am going to be conducting a live Q&A in London answering questions about gender equality,” she said.
And that’s not all: She’s inviting fans who are just as passionate about feminism to join her. “If you’re in London and would like to be there in person, tell me how you are making a personal impact to advance gender equality,” she wrote in the caption. (You can submit your story here by 4 pm London time on Wednesday for a chance to be part of the audience.)
“Thank you so much for all of your support and participation so far,” Watson added. “It’s been absolutely amazing and just an amazing adventure, journey, experience for me. So thank you, thank you. You guys are really awesome.”
Back in September, Watson gave a truly moving speech about the importance of men fighting for gender equality, too.
“For the record, feminism by definition is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and the decisions that affect my life,” she said. “I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men.”
We think so, too. And we think you’re awesome, Emma.
