Emma Thompson joked that she should have gone on a date with Donald Trump when he asked her out
Well, we can officially add Emma Thompson to the list of celebs Donald Trump has tried to date. (A list that also includes Salma Hayek, Candice Bergen, and Brooke Shields.) Thompson was recently a guest on The Graham Norton Show and recounted her interaction with the 45th President of the United States.
Apparently, Trump called her up in 1997 while she was filming Primary Colors, a movie that is coincidentally about Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign. Though she ended up turning down his request for a date, Thompson joked that some part of her regrets the decision. “I could’ve changed the course of history!” she told the host.
So, the story goes like this.
Thompson’s trailer had a landline telephone that she wasn’t even sure actually worked. But one day, it rang. Guess who was on the other line? Yup. A man who, according to the actress, people only associated with “tasteless architecture” and “a boundless sense of narcissistic kind of madness” at the time.
"No one had ever rung me on it, nor had I ever used it. In fact, I assumed it was not a working machine. And it rang one day, and I picked it up, and it was Donald Trump. Donald Trump — Donald Trump! — Donald Trump was on the other end of the phone going, 'Hi, it’s Donald Trump here,' and I thought someone was having a laugh! So I said, 'Oh, fuck off,'" Thompson said. "I just didn’t know what to say. I was just absolutely astounded because how did he get my number? A number that I didn’t have."

Well, that sounds pretty creepy and about right for Trump. But Thompson says if she had gone out with him, maybe she could have prevented him from running for president.
"I could have [ruffles Adam Sandler's hair]. Then we would all have known the truth [about his hair], she added. "Then maybe he wouldn’t have been president."
It’s definitely possible. But at least Thompson saved herself from the experience of a really, really bad date.
