Emma Stone had the most gracious thing to say about “La La Land’s” confusing Best Picture loss
Something happened during last night’s Oscars that’ll have people buzzing for quite some time — La La Land was named the Best Picture winner by mistake. Luckily, La La Land‘s Emma Stone had nothing but good to say about the snafu, reminding us why we love her. Seriously, it’s tough to think up a proper response after a huge and somewhat embarrassing upset like that!
At least this is just a reminder that anything can happen on live television. And people are still trying to figure out what happened — announcers Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway definitely seemed a bit puzzled about the mix-up as well. The good news is, there seemed to be no hard feelings.
"One of the stage managers came on stage and was asking some questions," Stone said to ABC after the show. "I’m so beyond excited for 'Moonlight,' I think it’s one of the greatest films of all time. So as far as I’m concerned, coolest outcome ever! But the process of getting there was a trip."
Beatty and Dunaway accidentally read the card for Stone’s win for Best Actress while announcing a winner. Stone’s win for that category was, for the record, definitely legit.
According to Stone, she was holding onto the card for Best Actress the entire time she was on stage. So, it’s possible that two cards were printed out.
"I also was holding my Best Actress in a Leading Role card the whole time. I’m not sure what happened," Stone added. "I think everyone’s in a state of confusion still. Excitement but confusion. I think everyone is just so excited for Moonlight. It’s such an incredible film."
La La Land has won countless awards this year, but this will probably be the most memorable on-stage experience that Stone got to encounter. The best thing is that she was totally gracious with losing, and gave so much credit where credit was due!
