Emma Roberts Is Adapting Some of Her Favorite Books For Hulu
The first one on the list? Carola Lovering's thriller 'Tell Me Lies.'
Emma Roberts is making big moves this week. First, she confirmed her pregnancy with partner Garrett Hedlund and now, the news is out about a major project she has in the works. The American Horror Story and Scream Queens star has signed a first-look deal at Hulu which will focus on adapting books for television, Deadline reports.
The deal is through Belletrist TV production company, which was originally founded by Roberts and her best friend, Karah Priess, as a book club.
The first book to get the on-screen treatment is Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering, which follows the story of a young woman who becomes entangled with a charming yet mysterious man. The protagonist, Lucy Albright, meets the man after she arrives at a small college away from home, leaving behind her mother whom she’s never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years.
Keeping the book club roots close to heart, Belletrist co-founder Priess will serve as executtive producer on all projects developed under the Hulu deal, while Belletrist’s director of development, Matt Matruski, will serve as producer, Variety reports.
Meaghan Oppenheimer, who worked on We Are Your Friends and Queen America, is set to write the pilot, and Rebelle Media and Refinery29 will produce.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it will likely be a while before we get any more details about the production of Tell Me Lies. In the meantime, though, you can make your way through all the shows coming to Hulu this fall, which just so happens to include the latest season of AHS.
