Emily Ratajkowski pens essay calling out double standard BS between men and women

In an interview with Glamour, model, activist, and actress Emily Ratajkowski takes down internalized misogyny and harmful sexist tropes with a single swoop, and we’re 100% in love. From backing Kim Kardashian‘s right to do as she pleases with her body (hell yes, ladies!) to taking action in the world of politics, she’s so much more than she’s given credit for, and we’re loving getting to finally hear her point of view.

Here are a few of our favorite parts of the interview!

Emily Ratajkowski on internalized sexism:

“Often it’s men propelling these acts of sexism, but women discount one another too: Think about how many times you’ve heard a woman say about another woman, ‘Oh, she’s just doing that for attention,’” Ratajkowski explains. “We’ve internalized this trope.”

Yes, yes, yes, YES.

On power:

“Our society tells women we can’t be, say, sexy and confident and opinionated about politics. This would allow us too much power,” Ratajkowski says. “Instead our society asks us to declare and defend our motivations, which makes us second-guess them, all while men do what they please without question.”

This is seriously *so* important. The double standards are real!

On vanity:

“I see it all the time, particularly when my girlfriends are getting ready to go out. They encounter this moment when they think, I don’t want to look like I tried too hard,” she continues. “They don’t want to be seen as desperate or vain. But my guy friends don’t think twice about whether this shirt or that cologne will make them seem attention seeking.”

Ugh, preach, lady.

On attention-seeking:

“The truth is that both groups want to be noticed. Yet we view a man’s desire for attention as a natural instinct; with a woman, we label her a narcissist.”

We are SO here for this! You go, Emily Ratajkowski.
