Emily Ratajkowski looks like a queen in her red leopard print suit
This month, actress and model and Instagram selfie queen, Emily Ratajkowski is on the cover of InStyle this month, and it is giving us life. The Gone Girl actress posted a pic on Instagram rocking a red leopard print jacket and matching fitted pants, looking every bit the chic goddess we know her to be. And even better than her clothes? Her interview. “The main criticism I get is ‘Aren’t you just conforming to a patriarchal standard of beauty?’ Well, this is just the body I was given,” Ratajkowski told InStyle. “I didn’t do anything to it — it’s just my body. But even if I had altered it, that would be fine too.”
The 25-year-old has come a long way since her topless starring role in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video. She’s now known for speaking out in support of Black Lives Matter, Bernie Sanders, and body positivity, writing poignant essays for Lenny Letter and Glamour about the way society treats women and how they can break out.
Elsewhere in the interview, she makes a powerful point about women’s bodies — and how it’s their choice what to do with them. Unfortunately, she’s had to deal with this firsthand. In December, she tweeted about how nude pictures were used without her permission in a photography book. “It’s up to me to choose when and how I want to share my sexuality,” she said to InStyle of the incident. “Of course, a bunch of the headlines were like, ‘Emily complains about nude photos and then posts her own sexy selfie.’ And I was like, ‘That’s exactly my point! The difference is, it’s my decision to post that.’”
And we’ll get to see a lot more of her. Ratajkowski is starring in two upcoming indie releases, Anthony Byrne’s In Darkness and Robert Siegel’s Cruise. BRB, putting those on the calendar now.
