Emilia Clarke wants everyone to chill with “Game of Thrones” nudity and sex questions

When Game of Thrones was first unleashed on the world, the show featured a surprising amount of sexual violence. While the cast and creators argued that it was just a natural part of the world and story, it did feel like a lot of the female characters were subjected to sexual assault for a storyline. In their defense, the show has become less gratuitously naked in recent seasons and the female characters are more empowered now than ever before. If you ask Emilia Clarke, she’s done fielding questions about the nudity and sex on the show. This season her character Daenerys has consensual sex with Jon Snow, it was perhaps the most pedestrian sex scene ever shot on the show, which is probably why Clarke is exasperated by questions about the show’s “racy content.”

“I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, ‘Oh, yeah, all the porn sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on.’ There are so many shows centered around this very true fact that people reproduce. People f**k for pleasure — it’s a part of life,” Clarke told Harper’s Bazaar.

Clarke is absolutely right that this season featured fewer titillating sex scenes.

We’re guessing that any reporters asking her about the porn-ish sex scenes might be a few seasons behind, and may want to catch up on all the progressive work the female characters are doing on the show now.

Back in Season 4, there’s a scene where Daenerys commands Daario to undress for her. Clarke said that was the kind of sex scene she was waiting for.

“It’s brilliant. I actually went up to [GOT creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and thanked them. I was like, ‘That’s a scene I’ve been waiting for!’ Because I get a lot of crap for having done nude scenes and sex scenes,” Clarke told Esquire over the summer. You can watch that scene here.

Yes, there has been a lot of female nudity on Game of Thrones, but there’s also a queen who rides on dragons, a female assassin, and a 12-year-old girl in charge of House Mormont — all of which are far more interesting to talk about than an actress in the nude.
