Elton John promises a “rainbow-colored wave of love” in a touching tribute to Orlando

Everyone is processing and grieving the mass shooting that took place at a gay club in Orlando over the weekend in their own ways. It’s so meaningful that we can do that together, especially when icons like Elton John lead the charge. The singer performed at the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday night when he took a moment to speak about the tragedy and spread an important message of hope.

“When a horror like this massacre in Orlando comes along, great agony like a tsunami and great grief, we feel shock, angry and we’re devastatingly sad for the people who died and for the loved ones who are mourning,” he said.

While there’s never a bright side to something this upsetting, the response to the event proves that the good in this world far outweighs the bad.

“What I find extraordinary and what really gives me strength and hope is the immediately behind that devastation came a different wave,” Elton continued. “A rainbow-colored wave of love and bravery. From Istanbul to Tel Aviv, from Sydney Opera House to the Eiffel Tower to the Empire State Building and the White House.”

This statement was met with cheers, as the singer went on to dedicate the night’s performance to the victims and the families who are suffering.

“I would like to say tonight we are winning the fight against prejudice,” he concluded. “Prejudice and darkness because their rainbow wave around the world tells me we can and we will win against these people.”
