Elton John just made an emotional tribute to George Michael by performing their duet
Legendary British singer and performer, Sir Elton John, paid an emotional tribute to George Michael by giving a touching performance of the pairs duet “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”
It was announced on Christmas day (December 25th), that pop music icon George Michael had passed away aged 53. Since then, many people have shared heartwarming memories and tributes to the late singer, including the likes of Britney Spears and Sir Elton John. What’s more, many people have come forward to talk about George Michael’s many random acts of kindness, and his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Now Elton John has performed a musical tribute to his friend George Michael and it’s breaking our hearts.
Performing in Las Vegas on Wednesday night (December 28th), Elton John performed an emotional version of the pair’s duet, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”
"George Michael passed away which was one of the saddest moments of my career because I had known George more of less from the start of Wham! and got to know him very well, played with him, recorded with him, and it was the most awful news because he was on the road back, supposedly to good health," Elton John said to the crowd.
Continuing, he added: “But more than anything as a human being he was one of the kindest, sweetest, most generous people I’ve ever met.”
The star then launched into a rousing performance of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”
According to metro.co.uk, Elton had to stop the performance halfway through, saying, “I only wish George was here to sing it with me.” Similarly, a concert goer told Mail Online, that Elton was visibly shaking and crying after the performance.
"[Elton] turned his back on the audience and was shaking and looked like he was crying," they said. "I was in tears and so was everyone around me. There were thousands of us in tears and it was very emotional."

Originally released in 1974, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” found success again in 1991 after a live version performed by both George Michael and Elton John was released, and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for one week in 1992. What’s more, the proceeds for the single were split and donated between 10 different charities for AIDs, children, and education.
It was reported on Wednesday (December 28th) that Elton John is set to perform at George Michael’s funeral.
