Elliot Page Calls Fans’ Support the “Greatest Gift” in New Instagram

In his first post since coming out as transgender, Page wrote, "From the bottom of my heart, thank you."

It’s been nearly a month since Elliot Page came out as transgender, and since sharing his initial post, friends, fans, and followers have come out in droves to support Page finally feeling comfortable enough to live authentically. On December 20th, Page shared his first Instagram selfie since coming out, and with it he thanked his support system for the love and kind words. This, of course, caused people to share even more love and kind words—and this is the kind of cycle we can get behind.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love and support has been the greatest gift, Page wrote in a caption on Instagram. Stay safe. Be there for each other.

Page also asked, “If you are able, support @transanta and @translifeline. See you in 2021. Xoxo Elliot.”

TranSanta founder Indya Moore commented “Love you sm!” and Trans Lifeline added, “Thank you so much for the support!” Jennifer Garner wrote, “Major, Huge love to you, Elliot.” Janelle Monáe, Ilana Glazer, and filmmaker James Gunn all posted emojis to show their support.

Prior to this post, Page received massive kudos from allies like Sir Ian McKellen, Cynthia Nixon, and Jameela Jamil, who all shared his coming out post on Twitter. In the post, the Umbrella Academy star told fans that his preferred pronouns are he/they and that his name is Elliot.

Despite the relief Page felt after coming out publicly, he said his joy is “fragile.” “The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence.”

Tagging TranSanta, an Instagram account that links potential anonymous donors to trans youths in need this holiday season, and Trans Lifeline, over-the-phone peer support for trans people, Page is taking the first step to direct positive attention to fellow trans people and using his platform to negate hate and offer help.

We can’t wait to see even more activism from Page come 2021, and just like the rest of the internet, we’ll be there to amplify his causes and give him a constant standing ovation.
