Ellen Page will star in Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy,” and the emo teen in us is freaking out

Turn up the My Chemical Romance and celebrate: lead singer Gerard Way’s graphic-novel-series-turned-upcoming-Netflix-show just landed the perfect star. Ellen Page will join The Umbrella Academy as Vanya, and this is the dream, dynamic pairing of our emo teen years. Juno‘s Ellen Page AND My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way working together?!

We’re more than okay (we promise).

The show about estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes was announced back in July and we’re just starting to learn details about how Netflix will bring Way’s colorful vision to life. As Vanya (aka The White Violin), Page will play someone still trying to figure things out; she’s the only one of Reginald Hargreeves’ adopted kids that doesn’t have super powers.

No word yet on who will take on the roles of the other children — Klaus/The Séance, Number Five/The Boy, Luther/Spaceboy, Diego/The Kraken, and Allison/The Rumor — but considering how much Netflix has been killing it lately, particularly in the supernatural misfits department (oh hi, Stranger Things Season 2), we’re sure they won’t have any trouble filling the spots. And if Page is any indication of the star power we should we expecting, we’re even more psyched than we thought we were!

Ellen Page seems to be right at home in projects about supernatural characters and other realms.

With X-Men, Flatliners, and Inception on her resume, she’s sure to hit the set running, er, solving her character’s father’s death. Plus, Way’s source material will give her and her future costars a lot of good stuff to work with. The Umbrella Academy, written by Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, has gotten a lot of props for its semi-twisted take on superhero lore.

Fargo‘s Steve Blackman will serve as showrunner on the series, with Way co-executive producing. The Umbrella Academy will hit streaming sometime next year. In the meantime, we’ll be bumping MCR and catching up with the graphic novels.
