Ellen Page Talks Powerful Roles and Being Pro-Porn on Reddit
When the New York Times reviewed Juno in 2007, the Times‘ critic deemed Ellen Page “frighteningly talented.” The film, co-starring Michael Cera, put Page on peoples’ maps, and the 26-year-old Canadian beauty has made a point of choosing strong female roles ever since. While promoting her latest film The East, in which Page plays an anarchist eco-activist, the Oscar-nominated actress did an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit where she spoke about picking powerful women and being pro-porn.
(Point of interest: She is allegedly dating her East co-star and insanely sexy Swede, Alexander Skarsgard. SWOON. HARD SWOON)
“You describe yourself as a feminist, and for a very attractive actor you’ve made a career that focuses more on the characters you play and their struggles rather than sexual appeal,” Redditor dispatcher_83 said to Page. He then went on to ask, “Was choosing these roles deliberate? For someone your age, has this been difficult for you to avoid a romantic comedy role or a typical love story type film?”
(Another point of interest: When the same Redditor asked whether Page prefers wine, whiskey, water or beer, she responded “tequila and water.”)
Later in the AMA, Page was asked again about her feminism from Reddit user courtneytrouble:
“you identify as a feminist, do you have any specific thoughts on misogyny in our day and age right now? what do you think about the current feminist porn movement? also, you rock! we love you.”
Agree? Disagree? Prefer wine and/or whiskey instead of tequila and water? Wanna read the whole thing on your own?
