Ellen DeGeneres just shared her “awkward Golden Globes moment”

Everyone’s still buzzing over the 2018 Golden Globes — not only was it a historical awards show, but Oprah’s speech was one that’ll stick with us for quite some time. And speaking of Oprah’s speech, Ellen DeGeneres shared her awkward Golden Globes moment, and it had something to do with the iconic star.

DeGeneres, known for always bringing the laughs, noted that the audience may have missed what went on. According to the host, it happened while Reese Witherspoon was introducing Oprah Winfrey for the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Thankfully, she shared the “footage” of the incident on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Thank you for your grace, and your generosity, and your wisdom,” Witherspoon said. “You’ve changed our lives.” From there, she went on to say that while many people are known on a first-name basis, she’s honoring someone who’s name is a “verb, an adjective, and a feeling.” And it’s around that time when DeGeneres, who’s sitting up front next to Oprah, realizes that she’s not the recipient of the big award.

But that’s not all that happens. Before Oprah even goes up for her speech, DeGeneres decides that she’s had enough of the awards show. So the “footage” shows her storming out, making sure to grab some of the complimentary champagne before making her exit.

Phew. Good thing nobody noticed during the actual show.

All jokes aside, DeGeneres said she was a fan of the awards show this year, complimenting host Seth Meyers for a job well done. “I enjoyed it a lot,” she said.

Since the Cecil B. DeMille award is given to someone who’s shown outstanding excellence in the field of entertainment, we have a feeling that DeGeneres has a pretty good chance of receiving the honor in the years ahead.
