Ellen expertly shut down Eric Trump’s bizarre conspiracy theory about her
It’s beginning to look like Eric Trump has a lot in common with his father: He loves tweeting, spreading conspiracy theories about his critics, and making allegations without evidence. Lucky for him, all three of his passions came together this week. When Twitter suggested Eric follow Ellen DeGeneres, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama, he attributed the recommendation to the “deep state.”
As the New York Times explained last year, the deep state is where “shadowy networks within government bureaucracies […] undermine and coerce elected governments.” Some Republicans believe a deep state is trying to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidency. However, there is no proof that an American deep state is anything more than a conspiracy theory.
Despite that, Eric Trump seems to have no qualms claiming that Clinton, Obama, and DeGeneres are members of the alleged state. So naturally, Ellen DeGeneres decided to address it during her show on Wednesday, January 3rd. false
I woke up to discover I was part of a government conspiracy called #DeepState. Here’s what I have to say about it. pic.twitter.com/YbyrUgxA4T

“I have some questions. First of all, which one is Eric? Did he kill the elephant or the cheetah?” DeGeneres jokingly asked the crowd. “It’s just the craziest thing I’ve seen all week. Because I saw that movie with the lady having sex with the fish and still this beats that.”
She continued by explaining the conspiracy theory. “Apparently, I’m part of some secret government conspiracy called the deep state,” she said. “Deep state is supposed to be a group of people they believe are trying to undermine Donald Trump. Which is ridiculous because no one has undermined Donald Trump more than Donald Trump.”

DeGeneres continued:
"And I just want to say, Eric, I am honored that you think that I'm powerful enough to be part of a government conspiracy [...] I don't have that kind of time. I’ve got my gay agenda meetings on Mondays. On Wednesday, Beyoncé and I host an Illuminati brunch, and then Portia and I on the weekends are desperately trying to have a baby, so I can't [find] time."
However, DeGeneres does have a theory of her own as to why Twitter thinks Eric Trump may want to follow her: Because his sisters Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump both do.
Brava, Ellen.
