Elle Fanning is walking around New York City looking like Nancy Drew

Is there anything we can’t picture Elle Fanning wearing? Not really. And the latest look Elle wore is one Nancy Drew would be proud of. While we don’t know why Elle is wearing this look on the streets of New York, other than the fact that it involves filming for Woody Allen’s latest unnamed movie, we can’t deny that we’re more tempted than ever to reintroduce plaids and sweaters into our fall wardrobe arsenal.

Paired with some tights and our favorite leather jacket, we’ll be channeling Fanning’s detective chic look in no time.

Elle took to the streets in white button-down shirt under a turquoise sweater. She finished off the look with a pleated plaid skirt and nude ballet flats, for a simple but nostalgic outfit that’s making us want to solve a crime.

Could this actually be Nancy Drew? We’re keeping our eyes peeled and our magnifying glasses ready for some clues.

Elle styled her yellow-gold locks in loose curls to frame her face and make her outfit pop. (It totally worked.) Next time we don’t know what to wear for a day of errands, we’ll be grabbing our plaid skirt and collar with our favorite pair of ballet flats, of course.
