Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Banks, and Maya Rudolph are making a puppet murder mystery movie
Good news, fellow fans of awesome ladies! Elizabeth Banks joined the cast of The Happytime Murders alongside Melissa McCarthy, and Maya Rudolph. Admittedly, we were going to see this movie the moment it was announced because it sounds incredibly weird and incredibly wonderful. It’s, as it seems, a murder mystery movie, plus PUPPETS, and not only will it have some of our favorite ladies in it…but Brian Henson, son of Jim Henson, will direct. And if anybody knows puppets, it’s the Jim Henson Company.
We don’t know a TON about the upcoming caper. But we do have a glimpse into the plot from a previous Deadline announcement.
"The story follows puppet stars of an iconic TV show The Happytime Gang who are some of the biggest celebrities around. But off-camera, the family-friendly cast leads the kinds of lives that would make a tabloid writer blush. When the Happytime Gang stars begin to be mysteriously murdered, two mismatched detectives – one a type-A, take-no-prisoners human with a secret and the other a crass, hard-drinking puppet with a connection to one of the victims – must put aside their huge differences to stop the killings and catch the culprit, all the while trying to resist the temptation to murder each other."
So, like, YEAH. Imagine that amazing premise, but with Melissa McCarthy. And Maya Rudolph. And Elizabeth Banks. Literally the dream.
All we know about Banks’ character is that she’ll be playing a burlesque dancer, so again we say — YEAH. Sign us the eff up.
