Eliza Dushku’s legal guardian confirmed her molestation allegations
Eliza Dushku’s on-set legal guardian has confirmed her story about being molested by stunt coordinator Joel Kramer during the filming of 1994’s True Lies. After Kramer denied the allegations of sexual assault made against him, Sue Booth-Forbes backed up the actress’s account by providing her own details in a statement to Deadline.
"Eliza Dushku is telling the truth," she said in a lengthy statement. "I was on the True Lies set for 3 weeks and reported Joel Kramer's inappropriate sexual behavior towards 12-year-old Eliza to a person in authority. I was met with blank stares and had the sense that I wasn't telling that person anything they didn't already know."
On Saturday, January 13th, Dushku shared her heartbreaking story in a Facebook post that detailed the night Kramer allegedly molested her.
Booth-Forbes recalled accompanying Dushku to the hospital after she suffered broken ribs in a stunt gone wrong under Kramer’s supervision – an accident he claims only left her a “little bruised.”
“I was at the hospital and can verify that she was hurt and in pain with breaks/cracks to her ribs,” Booth-Forbes said. “Surely they have medical records somewhere to prove that.”
She also revealed that she tried to keep Kramer away from Dushku, but was unsuccessful due to the fact that the set was ruled by “misogyny.” To make matters worse, Kramer was constantly around the young actress and her body because of all the stunts she had to do for the film.
"It has been 25 years, and I am grateful for the current efforts to stop this madness. I am so proud of Eliza for writing her eloquent, accurately detailed account of the trauma she suffered at his hands," she said. "I did the only thing I knew to do then — report his behavior to someone with some clout, and that went nowhere."
Booth-Forbes said she’s had to live with the guilt of not having done more, but that this time she will not let herself be intimidated.
“Joel Kramer did what Eliza said he did. He is a pedophile, and he must face the consequences,” she said, ending her statement.
Dushku is incredibly brave for coming forward after all these years. Not only has her story opened up a new chapter in the #MeToo movement, but it will hopefully encourage others to come forward with their experiences as well.
