The Cast of ‘Elf’ Will Reunite For a Virtual Table Read
The event will benefit the Georgia Democratic Party ahead of the state's crucial Senate runoff elections.
Prepare your plates of spaghetti with M&Ms, marshmallows, rainbow sprinkles, and a chocolate and maple syrup garnish: The cast of Elf is reuniting on Sunday, December 13th, to perform a live virtual table read of the screenplay. It’s also doubling as a fundraiser for Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, who are running in the upcoming Senate runoff elections in Georgia.
The table read is stacked with a mix of the original cast, and some new (but famous) faces. Participating actors include Will Ferrell (who played Buddy the Elf), Zooey Deschanel (Jovie), Bob Newhart (Papa Elf), Edward Asner (Santa Claus), Mary Steenburgen (Emily), Amy Sedaris (Deb), Andy Richter (Morris), Kyle Gass (Eugene), and special guests include John Lithgow, Danny Woodburn, Ed Helms, Busy Philipps, Matt Walsh, and director Jon Favreau, Deadline reports. Comedian Ashley Nicole Black will step in as host.
Zooey Deschanel tweeted about the event yesterday with Buddy-appropriate excitement. “If I were any more excited to be in the #ElfForGeorgia reunion I might explode into a burst of snowflakes, she wrote.
“Join me, Will Ferrell, and many other amazing people from the original cast along with some special guests for our live reading! All donations go to support GA dems.”
This isn’t Hollywood’s first “table read in support of Georgia dems” rodeo. On December 6th, the cast of Veep also got together for a table read of the show’s eerily prescient episode “Mother.” Donations went toward America Votes, a nonprofit that’s working to turn out voters for the crucial runoff elections in Georgia.
This time around, donations will go directly to the Georgia Democratic Party, and you can snag a ticket by making a donation of any amount through Act Blue.
The table read airs at 4 p.m. ET, which gives you plenty of time to make snow angels for two hours, go ice skating, eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie Dough as fast as you can, and then snuggle in advance of the event.
