Eddie Redmayne once auditioned for a major “Star Wars” villain and our minds are BLOWN

With his movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, mere days away from premiering, we are in love with all things Eddie Redmayne. The Academy Award winner steals our hearts time and time again by portraying complicated and fascinating characters.
So it’s crazy to think of our beloved hero, Eddie Redmayne, as the Star Wars villain Kylo Ren.
Yet it turns out the actor actually auditioned for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens role that would eventually go to Adam Driver.
While it was already revealed that Redmayne had auditioned for the new Star Wars movie during a podcast, he didn’t actually specify which role. He simply said he’s lost parts to Domhnall Gleeson of the Harry Potter films before.
That tidbit of information was enough for people to speculate that Redmayne ~probably~ auditioned for General Hux.
But, The Force Awakens director’s commentary brought to light the fact that he had actually auditioned for the (even more evil) role of Kylo Ren.
During an interview with Uproxx, Redmayne clarified that the audition didn’t exactly go great for him.
He said, "They gave me like a Star Trek scene – or like something from Pride and Prejudice. It was one of those films. With films that top secret, they don’t give you the actual lines."
Despite his outspoken love for the Star Wars world, he wasn’t able to muster up enough pure evil to channel Kylo Ren (even though, to be fair, he was reading something completely unrelated).
He continued, "That was really a hilarious moment. Because it was Nina Gold... And she was just sitting there and I was trying again and again with different versions of my kind of 'koohh paaaah' [Darth Vader breathing sound] voice. And after like ten shots she’s like, 'You got anything else?' I was like, 'No.'"
It sounds like he has a great perspective on the audition, even if it didn’t get him the iconic role. At least he joined into the Harry Potter universe through his exciting upcoming Fantastic Beasts film that (finally!) premieres November 18.
