Ed Sheeran’s character in “Game of Thrones” might be in major trouble, thanks to Arya
It’s safe to say Ed Sheeran’s appearance on the season premiere of Game of Thrones gathered a *lot* of attention. But chances are, if you weren’t paying close enough attention, you missed some pretty key details during the “Castle on a Hill” singer’s scene. If you haven’t seen the GoT seventh season premiere episode, “Dragonstone,” look away because this post contains spoilers.
When we first see Arya Stark in “Dragonstone,” she’s demonstrating how powerful an assassin she’s become by murdering *all* the noteworthy Frey men — much to the shock and delight of every GoT fan in existence. But it’s her second scene in the episode that shows us just how much she’s changed since beginning her training with Jaqen H’ghar.
While most of us were distracted by Ed Sheeran’s melodious voice, Arya was trying to figure out how she was going to kill the singer and the Lannister men she’d stumbled upon.
If you look closely at the scene, you see Arya sizing up the young soldiers and their weapons while feigning naïveté. As the scene progresses, the young assassin seems to be relaxing into the situation, but when she mentions wanting to travel to King’s Landing to kill Cersei, it’s clear that the graduate of the House of Black and White is still as ruthless as we saw in the cold open.
Naturally, Arya’s clever moves didn’t go unnoticed as redditors dissected the scene.
"Once the soldiers address her, she is immediately playing a character," wrote reddit user delipeachtea. "She acts young and inexperienced, and we as the audience are given confirmation that the ruse has worked when the soldiers ask if she is old enough to drink. This is a trained killer with a brutal sense of vengeance — and she has the entire pack of soldiers convinced she's a harmless northern girl too young for wine."
As Good Housekeeping points out, Arya, being the smart, conniving young woman that she is, was most certainly using her friendly conversation with the Lannister men to learn about the state of King’s Landing to better help her with her goal to kill Cersei.
While it appears the Lannister men survived their encounter with Arya, we won’t officially know until next week.
